Hello World!

After much debate we decided to get induced on the 15th of June.  Josh and I showed up at the hospital right before our 6:30 am appointment time.  Josh knew of a short cut to the labor and delivery floor, so he lead the way.  Of course, we got lost so we went back down to the main entry and followed the signs to labor and delivery.  Labor and delivery sent us back down to the emergency room to sign in-apparently, the L & D admin staff doesn't work until 7:30 am.  As I waddled the hallways I was starting to wonder if this chaos was an omen about inducing.  I realized the chaos was being caused by our nerves when Josh asked the nurse if his ID wrist band was required in case he passed out.  He was so serious, the nurse and I couldn't even laugh.  :)

We were settled in our room by 7:15 or so.  My doctor was supposed to be in at 7:00 am but hadn't shown up yet.  My very loving and supportive husband said " She is probably having one of those Monday's where you really don't want to be at work and your head isn't in the game."  Not at all what I wanted to hear at that point.  Dr. Fillerup (yes, that is her real name) finally showed up and broke my water at 7:3o am.

After a quick stop at McDonald's, to pick up breakfast for Josh, my parents arrived.  Lana, Grandma Betty, and Aimee all arrived shortly thereafter.  The labor was pretty uneventful, I was progressing quickly.  Everyone was really helpful.  Especially Josh and my Mom.  I loved that they were both fighting (playfully) over who got to massage my feet and feed me ice chips.  I could have that happen more often!!  I didn't let the contractions get to painful before I requested the epidural.  My new best friend, Rick, did an amazing job - the epidural didn't hurt and I feel like I received the perfect amount of medicine.

Carter (although he was still nameless at this time) was not moving down the birth canal on his own (because he couldn't fit), but I was at a 10.  It was finally time to deliver.  My dad left the room for the delivery but everyone else stayed.  They brought in a special nurse for Josh, someone thought he looked like he was going to pass out.  Between each push, his nurse asked if he was ok.  Since Josh was struggling to stay upright, my Mom took over the coaching duties.  With her new responsibilities she forgot that she was holding my leg - thanks to Aimee's catch, I didn't fall off the table.  As you can imagine with that many people in the delivery room there were a lot of laughs.  Thanks to my new best friend, Rick, I was laughing with them!  :)   After so many pushes, the laughter died down and Dr. Fillerup took things into her own hands.  Shortly thereafter our beautiful baby boy was born.
